College Principal’s Biography


James Camilleri

James Camilleri was born in Attard in 1967. He was educated at Paola Primary school and St Aloysius College in Birkirkara. He pursued his studies at the New Lyceum. In 1986 he entered the University of Malta from where he graduated Bachelor of Education and started his teaching career as a teacher of Maltese in 1991.

A year later he was appointed as a guidance teacher and this encouraged him to further his studies in Educational Counselling. In fact in 1997 he obtained a post graduate Diploma in School Counselling which he followed up two years later by another post graduate Diploma in Education (School Administration and Management).

Mr Camilleri taught and performed guidance and counselling duties in various secondary schools before joining Child Safety Services in 2002. In 2004 he was promoted to Assistant Head of School at Lorenzo Gafa’ Boys Secondary, Fortini Vittoriosa and later on became Acting Head of the same school. He also lectured part-time at the University of Malta. In 2008 James Camilleri became Head of Cospicua Girls Secondary School. In the same year he obtained a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Gloucestershire. In January 2011 he was promoted to Principal of San Ġorġ Preca College.

Mr Camilleri is married to Louise née Sammut Briffa and has a daughter, Martina and a son, André. Mr Camilleri was also a Local Councillor at Lija, a post he held between 2003 and 2006.
